Anambra Commissions Medical Oxygen Plant To Boost Emergency Healthcare
THE Anambra State Government has commissioned a state-of-the-art Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Medical Oxygen Production Plant at the Enugwu Ukwu General Hospital in Njikoka Local Government Area, to enhance healthcare delivery.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, described the initiative as a critical step towards strengthening the healthcare system by ensuring a steady and affordable supply of medical oxygen across health facilities in the state.
“This plant will provide a consistent and reliable source of oxygen, reducing dependence on external suppliers and minimizing the risk of shortages,” Dr. Obidike stated. “It will greatly improve patient outcomes by enabling timely and effective treatment, especially during emergencies and mass casualty situations.”
Dr. Obidike also emphasized that the new facility would reduce operational costs for hospitals by eliminating the need to transport oxygen from distant locations.
“Now, healthcare providers in and around Enugwu Ukwu can access high-quality oxygen right here, significantly cutting down on transportation expenses and time,” he said.
The oxygen plant, equipped with a dedicated power generator, was developed in collaboration with the Global Fund, the Federal Government, and the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).
“This commissioning is part of broader efforts by the Soludo-led administration to upgrade healthcare infrastructure, improve emergency response capabilities, and enhance the overall quality of care for Anambra residents,” Obidike noted.
Key stakeholders present at the event included the Hospital Administrator, Dr. Frank Ifeanaeme; Director of Medical Services, Dr. Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu; and the Head of Enugwu Ukwu General Hospital, Dr. Dozie Udeolisa.
Representatives from the Federal Government and NACA were also in attendance, including Mrs. Grace Izuwa and Mr. Chizoba Nwabashili of the Oxygen Desk Office.
