Alumni Support Education, Sports At St. Brigid’s Asaba

Old Girls Donate Educational and Sports Materials
THE Old Girls Association of St. Brigid’s Girls Grammar School, Asaba, has donated ten laptops, footballs and trophies to the school in a move aimed at strengthening digital learning and encouraging sports development.
The donation reflects the Association’s growing resolve to support the institution that has played a pivotal role in shaping young women since its establishment in 1965.
ICT Development Takes Centre Stage
Receiving the donation, the school’s Principal, Sister Cordelia Osita, expressed appreciation to the alumni, noting that the laptops would significantly boost the school’s ICT programme.
She revealed that the school had already embarked on the expansion of its ICT laboratory, with renovation works completed and plans underway to fully equip the facility.
“With these laptops, we can immediately begin to improve our ICT training. The donation aligns perfectly with our academic goals for this session,” she said.
She also noted that the footballs and trophies would motivate students to engage more actively in sports, promoting physical fitness and teamwork.
60 Years of Impact and Renewed Alumni Unity
St. Brigid’s Girls Grammar School celebrated its diamond jubilee in 2025, an anniversary that ushered in a new era of alumni collaboration. Old Girls from different graduating sets united under a single platform to execute projects that benefit the school as a whole.
This unity was largely inspired by the Class of 1984, whose 40th anniversary project in 2024 involved the interlocking of part of the school’s entrance road. The success of that project encouraged broader alumni participation.
Homecoming Activities and Leadership Renewal
A Homecoming Committee formed in 2025 organised a series of reunion activities, beginning with a health walk and health talk. Alumni also participated in a novelty football match and paid courtesy visits to traditional authorities in Asaba.
The reunion climaxed with an Annual General Meeting, where a keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Mininim Oseji, Delta State Head of Service, and a new national executive council was elected.
The newly elected leadership later completed the reunion projects, including the laptop donation, which had been delayed due to early student vacation.
Stakeholders Applaud Initiative
National President of the Association, Mrs. Tolefe Maureen, explained that the donation was in fulfilment of the alumni’s commitment to the school.
Commending the effort, Rev. Fr. Dr. Emmanuel Ugbolu described the donation as timely, especially with the increasing reliance on computer-based testing nationwide.
Parents, teachers and students also lauded the initiative, with the School Head Girl, Miss Ofuonye Chidinmma, assuring that the items would be used responsibly to enhance learning and school pride.
