Stakeholders Adopt Preventive Measures Ahead of Congress
WITH the APC state congress fast approaching, the Delta North APC Coalition for Equity (CFE) has announced the formation of a seven-member Screening Committee, aimed at preventing internal disputes and ensuring a transparent selection process among aspirants from the zone.
The move follows the decision of the coalition’s chairman, Barrister Alex Ikpeazu, to step aside after declaring his intention to contest for the position of APC State Chairman.
Avoiding Perceived Advantage
Coalition leaders said Ikpeazu’s temporary withdrawal from leadership was necessary to eliminate any perception of undue influence or advantage.
“It became necessary and appropriate for Barrister Ikpeazu to step aside in order to guarantee a level playing field for all aspirants of Delta North origin,” the coalition said in a statement.
The coalition noted that its membership comprises individuals with similar political ambitions, making neutrality and fairness essential.
Seven-Man Committee to Screen Aspirants
According to Hon. Kemmer Emina, Secretary-General of the coalition, the newly established committee will play a central role as the congress approaches.
“The committee will screen all interested aspirants and recommend a candidate who is widely acceptable, credible and capable of advancing the collective interest of Delta North within the APC,” Emina said.
He added that each aspirant is allowed to nominate a representative, a structure designed to foster trust and inclusiveness in the process.
Coalition Reaffirms Strategic Goals
The coalition reaffirmed its determination to ensure that Delta North remains relevant and influential within the APC’s leadership structure in Delta State.
“We are unwavering in our commitment to equity, unity and inclusive participation. Delta North must continue to play a strong and strategic role in the leadership and growth of the APC,” Emina stated.
Chief Iyke Mordi Takes Over as Acting Chairman
To ensure seamless coordination, the coalition unanimously appointed Chief Iyke Mordi as Acting Chairman.
Mordi is expected to oversee the coalition’s affairs, coordinate stakeholders and guide internal processes until the conclusion of the congresses.
Praise for Ikpeazu’s Political Conduct
Mordi commended Ikpeazu for what he described as an uncommon display of political integrity.
“His decision to step aside reflects maturity, respect for democratic values and a genuine commitment to fairness,” Mordi said.
He urged all APC members in Delta North to remain calm, united and focused on strengthening the party ahead of the congress, stressing that internal cohesion would be critical to the APC’s fortunes in the state.
The developments signal a strategic effort by the Delta North APC Coalition for Equity to manage ambition, reduce internal tension and present a united front during a crucial phase of party reorganisation.
