Digital Literacy Training Begins In Delta
PARTICIPANTS of the Basic Digital Literacy Training, were seated for the event, starting today, in Asaba, Delta State capital.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, represented by thevSecretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, advised the young participants to take all the sessions seriously, if they are to truly acquire needed skills towards being part of the next generation of national and global players in the digital economy.
Ukah, on behalf of the Governor, declared open, the Basic Digital Literacy Training Programme, organised by the state government, in collaboration with Digital Access Programme Adviser and Country Lead of the United Kingdom Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
Okowa said the programme is part of government’s efforts to leverage on digital literacy, in its bid to reduce the poverty index and join the global fourth industrial revolution driven by Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
He also said it is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aimed at eradicating poverty, ensure quality education and reduce inequalities, as well as support Nigeria’s National Digital Policy and Strategy 2020-2030, which is about transforming Nigeria into a leading digital economy.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the office of the SSG, Comrade Samuel Dietake, who stated that the world was already in the fourth industrial revolution, driven by information and communication technology, urged the participants to take the training seriously, so as to compliment government’s drive to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. Some participants who spoke, were of the view that the programme is a timely one, considering the fast pace of ICT in the present world.
