AS the countdown to the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season gathers pace, Osun United Football Club is reportedly weighing a major decision to change its home ground in a bid to enhance performance and fan experience.
The club, popularly known as the Omoluabi Giants, is said to be considering the Aderemi Sanni Stadium inside Adeleke University, Ede, as its new home base. The move, according to reliable club sources, is part of broader efforts to reposition the team both competitively and administratively ahead of the new campaign.
A Push for Improved Facilities
Insiders reveal that the decision to consider the Adeleke University Stadium was driven by its impressive facilities and playing surface, which are believed to meet NNL’s minimum hosting requirements. The stadium boasts a well-maintained natural grass pitch, standard seating arrangements, and improved dressing room facilities—key elements the NNL board prioritises when approving venues for matches.
A senior official of the club, who preferred anonymity, noted that the new ground offers better accessibility and infrastructure compared to Osogbo Township Stadium, the team’s traditional home.
“We have inspected the Aderemi Sanni Stadium, and we are impressed with what we saw. The facilities are good, and the environment is conducive for players and fans alike. If everything goes according to plan, Osun United will play their home matches there next season,” the official said.
Strategic Move for a Fresh Start
The potential relocation is also seen as part of a renewed effort by the Osun United management to revive the team’s fortunes after a challenging previous season. Club executives believe that adopting a new venue could inspire a stronger home advantage and attract fresh supporters from the Ede community and surrounding towns.
Sports analysts in the state have described the move as a positive step, citing the growing partnership between football clubs and educational institutions as a model for sustainable sports development. Adeleke University’s management, known for its growing interest in sports infrastructure, has reportedly expressed readiness to collaborate with the club to ensure smooth logistics and security for matchdays.
Awaiting Official Approval
Although discussions are at an advanced stage, the club has yet to issue an official statement confirming the switch. Sources indicate that Osun United officials are working with both the NNL Secretariat and the Osun State Sports Council to complete venue inspection and certification processes before the season kicks off.
If approved, the Aderemi Sanni Stadium will become the new fortress for the Omoluabi Giants as they aim to mount a serious challenge for promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Fans React with Optimism
Among the club’s supporters, the prospect of a new home ground has been met with mixed feelings—some excited about improved facilities, others nostalgic about leaving the Osogbo Township Stadium. Still, most fans share a common hope that the move will usher in a new era of stability and success for their beloved club.
With preseason preparations underway and squad restructuring ongoing, Osun United appears set for a fresh chapter—one built on ambition, better infrastructure, and the promise of a stronger showing in the 2025/2026 NNL season.
