# Corrections & Updates Policy
**Effective Date:** 15 October 2025
**Last Updated:** 15 October 2025
At **NewscrackersNG**, we take accuracy seriously. When errors occur or new information emerges, we are committed to correcting the record openly and promptly. This page explains how we handle corrections, clarifications, and story updates.
## How to Request a Correction
If you spot an error in any of our articles (factual inaccuracies, misquotes, outdated information, etc.), please let us know. You can:
– **Email us:** corrections@newscrackersng.com
– **Use our Contact Form:** On our [Contact Us] page, select “Correction request” in the subject if available, or mention the issue in your message.
In your request, please include:
– The title or URL of the article in question.
– A description of the error (with what the correct information should be, if you know).
– Any supporting evidence or source for the correct information (if available).
Our editorial team reviews all correction requests as a priority. If a correction is warranted, we will implement it as described below.
## Our Corrections Procedure
**Minor Corrections:** Typos, misspellings, or minor factual errors (e.g., a person’s age, a date, a name spelling) that do not materially affect the story:
– We will correct the text on the site quietly (without a formal note), *but* we will add a brief italicized note at the bottom of the article noting the change. Example: “*Correction: October 15, 2025 – Corrected the spelling of John Okon’s name.*”
– If the article has been shared widely or the error could confuse readers, we may also note the correction at the top.
**Major Corrections/Clarifications:** Errors that impact the understanding of the story (e.g., misidentifying a person, getting a significant fact wrong) or cases where an article needs a clarification:
– We will correct the text and add a prominently placed correction note at the top or bottom of the article. Example: “*Correction: In an earlier version of this story, we incorrectly stated that XYZ. The correct information is ABC.*”
– The correction note will clearly explain what was wrong and the correct information, along with the date of the correction.
– We may also update the headline if necessary and indicate that change: e.g., “Updated headline for accuracy.”
**Updates to Developing Stories:** For news stories that develop over time (e.g., an ongoing event or a story that we initially published with limited info):
– We will mark significant updates with the timestamp of the update and what was added. For instance: “*(Update 3:30pm: The government has since announced relief measures for affected communities.)*”
– If new information substantially changes the story, we might add “UPDATED” to the headline or prepend an Editor’s Note at top summarizing the update.
**Article Removal or Retraction:** In very rare cases, if an article is found to be fundamentally flawed or incorrect and cannot be adequately corrected, we may retract it.
– If so, we will post a notice at the URL explaining the removal and reason (e.g., “This article has been retracted because the source was found to be non-credible.”).
– Retractions are a last resort – our preference is always to correct rather than remove.
## Logging Corrections and Updates
We maintain an internal log of all corrections made. Major corrections (those that alter the meaning of content) are also logged here publicly:
– **Corrections Log:**
– *15 Oct 2025:* Corrected the minister’s name in “Flood Wreaks Havoc” article (Maruf Tunji Alausa, not “Marouf”).
– *02 Sept 2025:* Clarified the context in “XYZ Protest” article that the quoted figure referred to 2022 data, not 2023.
*(This is an example — in practice, we will list recent corrections with dates and descriptions.)*
For updates:
– We typically do not list routine news updates in this log (they are evident on the article itself). This log is more for corrections of errors. However, if an update serves as a correction, it will be noted.
## Commitment to Transparency
NewscrackersNG’s credibility rests on acknowledging our mistakes. We do not remove errors quietly or “pretend it never happened.” Every correction is an opportunity to show readers that we value the truth and their trust above all.
If you have any questions about our corrections process or feel an error was not adequately addressed, please reach out to our Managing Editor at **editor@newscrackersng.com**. We appreciate readers who help us uphold our standards by pointing out issues.
