ASUU Insists On Strike As Ultimatum Draws Near
By MELVIN KOFFA
THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has reaffirmed plans to begin a two-week nationwide warning strike from 14th October if the Federal Government fails to meet its demands before the 13 October deadline.
ASUU President, Chris Piwuna, said the strike decision is final, citing government’s failure to sign and implement the renegotiated 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement.
He criticized the government’s handling of education funding and rejected the NELFUND student loan scheme, arguing it is unrealistic in the current economic climate.
Piwuna said the union’s demands have been pending for years despite multiple negotiations, warning that after the warning strike, ASUU may embark on an indefinite action if issues remain unresolved.
