Delta SUBEB Dismisses Viral Classroom Video, Reaffirms Education Efforts
By PAULINA NZERUBE
THE Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving school infrastructure after a viral video showed pupils sitting on the floor at Eghreka Primary School, Ewu, in Ughelli South.
Chairman Hon. Samuel Oghenevwogaga Mariere said the video was exaggerated for political reasons, noting that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda is driving major educational improvements.
Mariere disclosed that over 16,000 dual desks and 234 new classrooms have been provided this year, with additional security and welfare upgrades including 22 new perimeter fences, 164 VIP toilets, and solar-powered boreholes.
He assured that over 90% of schools are now fenced and that measures are in place to curb theft and enhance supervision.
SUBEB also announced that the Basic Schools Sports Festival will run from 9 to 22 October 2025, across Delta’s 25 LGAs, culminating at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
