FG Rolls Out Energy Plan To Power Millions

THE Federal Government has inaugurated the National Energy Master Plan Implementation Committee (NEMiC) to spearhead Nigeria’s transition to cleaner and more reliable power.
Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, said the committee must deliver energy solutions that impact households, industries, and communities. He described the Master Plan as a blueprint for transforming Nigeria’s energy landscape, stressing that NEMiC’s work will shape the nation’s economic growth and sustainability for decades.
Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, CEO of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, presented the implementation roadmap to the minister.
Stakeholders, including representatives of global power companies and international development agencies, hailed the move as a bold step to accelerate universal energy access, drive industrialisation, and position Nigeria as a leader in clean energy.
The committee will oversee projects in solar, wind, hydro, and biomass, while also operationalising the National Energy Fund to support energy infrastructure and efficiency.
Over 80 million Nigerians currently lack reliable electricity, with most households depending on biomass for cooking—a gap the Master Plan seeks to close.
