NEC Backs Nationwide Flood Control Plan

THE National Economic Council (NEC) has approved a new framework to tackle flooding across Nigeria, following a presentation by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu at its meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum said the plan outlines medium and long-term strategies to protect vulnerable communities, provide timely interventions, and reduce reliance on short-term fixes.
The council commended the initiative as “comprehensive and visionary” but directed that its scope be expanded to cover more states. States were also urged to intensify public awareness campaigns and strengthen emergency agencies to curb flooding risks.
