Dogara: Tinubu’s 2025 Tax Reform, Boldest Fiscal Overhaul
By NJORIGE LYNUS
FORMER Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has described Nigeria’s 2025 tax reforms under President Bola Tinubu as the most ambitious overhaul of the country’s fiscal framework.
Speaking at the maiden Distinguished Parliamentarian Lecture in Abuja, Dogara said the reforms address decades of complexity, weak enforcement, and economic mismanagement that eroded the naira’s value. He praised Tinubu for unifying the exchange rate and initiating urgent economic reforms from his first day in office.
Dogara noted that tax reform is not punishment but a pact for national prosperity, urging Nigerians to support the initiative despite resistance from vested interests.
NUJ FCT Chairman, Grace Ike, said the reforms aim to broaden Nigeria’s tax base, boost revenue, and ensure fairness while calling for improved infrastructure to reflect tax usage.
House of Representatives Press Corps Chairman, Gboyega Onadiran, said the lecture was designed to clarify the reforms and highlight parliament’s role in shaping Nigeria’s economic future.
