Pensioners Threaten Naked Protest Over Unpaid Benefits

By OBIOMA TORI
THE Coalition of Federal Pensioners of Nigeria has threatened a nationwide naked protest on the 6th of October if the government fails to pay arrears, increments, and palliatives.
National Chairman Mukaila Ogunbote said pensioners were excluded from benefits approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2023, including a ₦25,000 palliative and a ₦13,000 pension increase. While workers received payments promptly, pensioners are still waiting nearly a year later.
He warned that the protest would symbolically expose government neglect, stressing that many retirees face hunger, lack of medication, and rising costs of living. Other pensioners urged the First Lady and officials to intervene, insisting they would march naked if demands remain unmet.
