FG Unveils New School Curricula After Nationwide Stakeholder Input
THE Federal Government has launched revised Basic and Senior Secondary School Curricula after months of nationwide consultations with key stakeholders.
According to a statement by the Federal Ministry of Education’s Director of Press, Folasade Boriowo, the review was coordinated by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) under the Ministry’s supervision.
The process, she explained, was inclusive and systematic, beginning with a nationwide needs assessment in 12 states, followed by dialogues across all six geopolitical zones. Learners, teachers, parents, civil society groups, employers, religious and traditional leaders, policymakers, and development partners all contributed to shaping the reforms.
The framework, reflecting both national priorities and global standards, was ratified at the 68th National Council on Education (NCE) meeting in October 2024, chaired by the Ministers of Education alongside state commissioners, SUBEB chairmen, and other partners.
Boriowo said the revised curricula, which merge competency-based and outcome-based approaches, have been implemented in phases over the last nine months. Piloting in selected schools, teacher orientation, and nationwide training—delivered both physically and online—were part of the rollout.
“The revised curricula are designed to strengthen learning outcomes, prepare students for future challenges, and align Nigeria’s education system with global benchmarks,” she said.
Details of the new curricula are available on the NERDC website: www.nerdc.gov.ng.
