Nwoko Delivers NEMA Relief To Flood Victims, Pushes For Lasting Flood Control In Delta North

FLOOD-RAVAGED communities in Delta North Senatorial District have begun receiving relief materials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), following the intervention of Senator Ned Nwoko through a motion of urgent national importance at the Senate.
The relief items—ranging from rice, garri, spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, and salt—are being distributed directly to affected families in Oshimili South, Ndokwa West, and Ndokwa East LGAs. NEMA’s Benin Operations Office is handling the exercise in collaboration with Nwoko’s office, which is funding the transportation and logistics.
Nwoko described the supplies as a lifeline for displaced households whose homes, farmlands, and livelihoods were destroyed by devastating floods earlier in the year. He praised NEMA’s swift response to his July appeal, noting that the intervention followed a federal assessment of the disaster’s impact.
While welcoming the relief, the lawmaker stressed the need for permanent solutions to the recurring menace. He revealed his push for major flood-control projects, including the dredging of the River Niger, construction of embankments, and a ₦27 billion coastal road project already captured in the NDDC budget to connect Asaba with riverine communities like Oko, Abala, Okpai, Aboh, and Patani.
“Relief brings comfort, but only durable infrastructure will break the cycle of destruction our people face every year,” Nwoko said, assuring his constituents of continued advocacy for federal interventions.
He commended NEMA’s Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, for the coordinated response and reaffirmed his commitment to using his office to secure more development projects for Anioma land.
“This is proof of what representation means to me—it is about action, not promises,” he said. “Together, we will rebuild livelihoods, overcome disasters, and restore confidence in a brighter future.”
