Centenary Without Boundaries: Cherubim & Seraphim Church Celebrates 100 Years of Faith, Unity & Global Growth
THE Cherubim & Seraphim (C & S) Church Organisation, one of Nigeria’s most influential white garment churches, has marked its 100th anniversary in grand style at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos. The celebration drew a mammoth crowd of faithful, clergy, dignitaries, and well-wishers from across the globe, with worshippers undeterred by an early morning downpour they interpreted as blessings from above.
Founded in 1925 by St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase, the C & S Church has grown from a small revivalist movement into a worldwide Christian community with branches across Africa, Europe, and North America. The Lagos event, themed “Centenary Without Boundaries,” was the climax of a month-long programme of thanksgiving services, tree planting, seminars, praise nights, and symbolic activities across Nigeria and beyond.
The anniversary featured a vibrant centenary parade, a combined 100-man choir, exuberant worship sessions, and goodwill messages. Top church leaders, led by His Most Eminence, Baba Aladura Dr. David Bob-Manuel (Moses Orimolade IX), presided over the service.
Dignitaries and Messages of Unity
The celebration was graced by dignitaries including Osun State Governor Ademola Jackson Adeleke, CAN Lagos Chairman Bishop Steven Adegbite, traditional rulers, and representatives of other denominations.
Governor Adeleke, a devoted Seraph himself, stole the spotlight with his characteristic dance moves during praise sessions. He hailed the global unity of the church, calling C & S “the mother of white garment churches” and urging leaders to continue speaking truth to power.
“What God ordained cannot go down. The church is moving from strength to strength, united in faith,” he said.
Bishop Adegbite commended the church’s resilience and grassroots legacy, noting that the C & S brought a unique form of worship—vigils, holiness-centered prayer, and community outreach—that made Christianity more relatable to ordinary Nigerians.
Honouring the Founder
In his address, Baba Aladura David Bob-Manuel highlighted the spiritual legacy of St. Moses Orimolade ‘Ajagunmokadi’, describing him as a reformer who established a holy order to win souls and reshape Christian worship in Africa. He emphasized the founder’s vision of inclusivity and the theme “Centenary Without Boundaries,” noting that the church remains open to welcoming splinter groups back into the fold.
“We are celebrating Jesus Christ who commanded our leader to establish this holy order. Even those who broke away will be received back whenever they are ready. We have open hands,” he declared.
Cultural and Musical Highlights
The occasion was also marked by cultural richness. Legendary Afro-juju musician Sir Shina Peters, himself a proud Seraph, testified to the deep role the church has played in his life and music. He credited C & S hymns as the backbone of his songs and evangelistic efforts.
“The C & S is my everything. Even in my music, the hymns inspire me to win souls for God,” Peters said, recalling his deep family roots in the church.
A Global Milestone
Across the world, C & S branches held simultaneous services to mark the centenary, underscoring its global reach and spiritual influence. From Ikare in Ondo State—the founder’s hometown—to major cities abroad, the church united in thanksgiving for a century of service.
As the centenary calendar continues with further commemorative events, the message from Lagos resonated clearly: the Cherubim & Seraphim Church is not just celebrating a milestone, but reaffirming its mission of unity, holiness, and spiritual renewal for the next 100 years.
