Women In Mining Firm Up Plan To Resolve Sectoral Challenges
Women in Mining in Nigeria is finalizing plans for its upcoming Gold and Gemstone Conference & Exhibition (GGCE) 2025, aimed at addressing challenges in the mining sector and offering practical solutions.
The event is scheduled to take place from November 24 to 28, 2025, in Lekki, Lagos, and will gather key stakeholders across the precious minerals value chain, including miners, gemologists, investors, policymakers, and traditional leaders.
Ooni of Ife to Serve as Father of the Day
His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has accepted the role of Father of the Day for the opening ceremony of GGCE 2025. The Ooni, a respected monarch and cultural icon with a notable passion for collecting precious stones, brings a symbolic and cultural significance to the event.
According to the organizers, his involvement emphasizes the historical and economic importance of gold and gemstones in African heritage, while highlighting the need to integrate modern industry practices with traditional custodianship and community development.
“We are deeply honoured by the gracious acceptance of His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, to serve as Father of the Day at the GGCE 2025 opening ceremony. His presence symbolizes unity, cultural pride, and a shared vision for sustainable development through our God-given natural resources,” said Engr. Janet Adeyemi, President of Women in Mining in Nigeria, on behalf of the organizing committee.
Promoting Responsible Mining and Economic Growth
The Ooni’s presence will lend traditional legitimacy and royal endorsement to discussions on responsible mining, economic empowerment, and the global positioning of Nigeria’s gold and gemstone sector.
Organizers say that GGCE 2025 will serve as a platform for collaboration, innovation, and policy engagement, advancing both the economic potential and sustainability of the Nigerian mining industry.
