Sterling Bank Frustrates Customers In Asaba, Fails To Honour Withdrawals
IT was a hellish weekend for customers of Sterling Bank, Asaba Branch over failure by the bank to honour cash requests, either at POS terminals which were returned as ‘declined’ or at the banking hall where many had rushed to in the hope of getting succour, but to no avail.
A journalist in Asaba who said that he is a long-time customer of the bank
lamented that as someone who is used to the cashless policy, he had no cash on him but had hoped on getting what will be sufficient for his family for the weekend, only to have his withdrawals declined at the POS.
He said because his office is close to the Nnebisi road branch of the bank, he hurried to the branch as time was running out, only to meet many others whose countenance said it all.
He said it was reminiscent of the days of cash scarcity, but added that “this was worse because in the days of cash scarcity, one could get money out their account to ‘buy’ cash but this time around, we were totally denied access. It is that bad”, he lamented.
It was gathered that customers were told to wait till today to see if they could access the money in their accounts.
