THE Delta State Government has urged the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) to strengthen its partnership with security agencies to improve public safety and sustain peace across the state.
The Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon. Prince Johnson Erijo, gave the charge when he received a delegation of the Delta State chapter of the committee on a courtesy visit.
During the meeting, Erijo commended the PCRC for its 42 years of voluntary service in Nigeria. He particularly praised its efforts to bridge the gap between the Police and local communities.
According to him, the committee has contributed significantly to public confidence in policing and grassroots peacebuilding. Consequently, he encouraged its members to sustain their commitment.
He also urged the PCRC to support police formations across Delta through effective intelligence sharing. Moreover, he stressed that security remained a collective responsibility that required the active involvement of government, security agencies and residents.
Erijo noted that the Federal Government was considering community policing as a strategy to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture. He expressed confidence that the PCRC’s extensive experience and grassroots network would enable it to contribute meaningfully to the initiative when fully adopted.
The Chief of Staff further reaffirmed the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He explained that meaningful development could only thrive in a secure environment.
He therefore assured the committee that the state government would sustain its investment in the security sector under the Enhanced Peace and Security pillar of the MORE Agenda.
Earlier, the Delta State PCRC Chairman, Mr. Oliver Eyefia, who led the delegation, outlined the committee’s responsibilities. These include promoting cordial relations between the Police and the public, supporting community mobilisation and encouraging respect for the rule of law.
Eyefia also commended the state government for its consistent support for security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force. He attributed Delta’s position as one of the most peaceful states in the country to the support provided to security institutions.
Furthermore, he pledged the committee’s continued loyalty and cooperation with the Delta State Government and the Police. He said the PCRC would sustain its partnership with both institutions to strengthen peace and security across the state and the country.
