Oborevwori Targets Dilapidated Schools, Promises Three More Technical Colleges By December

GOVERNOR Sheriff Oborevwori has directed the Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education to assess all dilapidated public schools across Delta State for immediate rehabilitation.
He gave the directive on Friday during the inauguration of the newly completed Model Technical College, Oghareki, in Ethiope West Local Government Area. He urged the relevant ministries to begin the assessment without delay.
The governor said the State Executive Council had earlier directed the ministries to identify schools requiring urgent repairs or reconstruction. He noted that maintaining more than 1,400 primary schools and 480 secondary schools across the state required sustained investment and careful planning.
Oborevwori said the proposed intervention reflected his administration’s commitment to improving education and providing safer, more conducive learning environments for pupils and students.
At the inauguration, he described the Model Technical College, Oghareki, as an investment in practical education and youth empowerment. The institution features modern workshops, accommodation for staff and students, and sports facilities.
He urged the school management, teachers and students to maintain the facilities properly. According to him, the college should equip young people in Ethiope West and neighbouring communities with practical skills that could improve their employment prospects and promote self-reliance.
The governor also announced plans to complete and inaugurate three additional model technical colleges at Irri in Isoko South, Kiagbodo in Burutu and Akugbene in Bomadi before December 2026.
In another announcement, Oborevwori approved an education support fund of ₦50 million for Miss Ogheneovo Davina, a Junior Technical II student who addressed him without prior preparation on behalf of her fellow students.
He also highlighted developments in road infrastructure, education and healthcare. These included projects at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, and the construction of male and female hostels at Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, and Delta State College of Education, Mosogar.
Former Governor James Ibori commended Oborevwori for completing the Oghareki project, which he said was initiated under the administration of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. He also praised development projects across the state, particularly in Urhobo land.
Turning to the 2027 general elections, Ibori assured Oborevwori of the support of people in Oghara and Ethiope West. He said they had prayed for the wisdom and grace needed to govern the state.
The member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, also praised the project and the governor’s decision to complete it. She expressed confidence that the turnout at the inauguration would translate into electoral support for Oborevwori in 2027.
Similarly, Ethiope West Local Government Chairman Christian Onogba described the inauguration as a landmark achievement. He said the administration’s development initiatives and political realignment from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress had helped foster unity across Delta State.
The Oghara monarch, HRM Noble Eshemitan, Orefe III, congratulated the governor on completing the institution.
Meanwhile, Davina thanked the government for investing in technical education. She pledged that the students would use the facilities to acquire practical skills and improve their prospects after graduation. She added that she would vote for Oborevwori in 2027 if she were old enough to do so.
The inauguration combined the opening of a new technical education facility with a renewed commitment to assessing and rehabilitating public schools across Delta State.
