From School Fees To Monthly Data: Foundation Begins Full Student Support Scheme

Two Students Receive First Awards
THE Awele Ilusanmi Foundation has commenced its scholarship programme by supporting two Nigerian undergraduates pursuing professional and engineering degrees.
The beneficiaries are Celina Chinwemmeri Ikechukwu, a 400-level Optometry student of the University of Benin, and Oyelade Adeyemi Testimony, a 200-level Information and Communication Engineering student at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.
The initiative is intended to help both students complete their university programmes without some of the financial pressures that can disrupt higher education.
Long-Term Academic Commitment
Rather than providing one-off assistance, the foundation said it would support the students through the remaining years of their respective programmes.
Ikechukwu will receive assistance for the final three years of her Doctor of Optometry course.
Testimony, meanwhile, will receive support for four more years of his Bachelor of Engineering programme.
The foundation began the scholarship on 3 October 2026, by paying their school fees.
Ikechukwu received ₦100,000 towards her fees, while Testimony received ₦150,000.
More Than Tuition
The educational support package also extends beyond school fees.
The foundation said the beneficiaries would receive allowances for food and provisions, pocket money and monthly data support.
Such assistance is designed to address some of the everyday expenses students face while pursuing their degrees.
According to the foundation, the beneficiaries became known to its chairperson through the Authors’ Hub WhatsApp group.
Education as an Investment
Ilusanmi said the scholarship programme reflects the foundation’s belief in the transformative value of education.
The organisation argued that giving students access to educational opportunities can help open doors to future careers and broader social advancement.
Consequently, the foundation sees its investment in the two beneficiaries as an investment not only in their individual futures but also in society.
The first awards therefore mark the beginning of an educational support initiative that seeks to combine tuition assistance with basic welfare support for young Nigerians pursuing higher education.
