DOPF 2026 Conference: Online Publishers, Journalists, Stakeholders To Converge In Asaba
THE Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) is set to host its 2026 Annual Conference and 6th Lecture Series, bringing together online publishers, journalists, government officials, political leaders, lawmakers, security chiefs, academics, business leaders and other stakeholders in Asaba.
The conference is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at David’s Event Centre, GRA, Asaba, and will commence at 11:00 a.m. prompt.
It is themed, “Democracy Under Pressure: Electoral Integrity, Security Challenges and Media Accountability in Nigeria.”
In a joint statement, the Chairman of the 2026 Annual Conference and 6th Lecture Series Planning Committee, Dn. Chijioke Williams Ugbolue, and the Secretary, Comrade Josephine Omodior, said the theme was chosen to promote informed and constructive discussions on issues affecting democratic governance in Nigeria.
The organisers said the conference would examine pressures confronting democratic institutions, the integrity of electoral processes, emerging security challenges and the evolving responsibilities of the media in an increasingly complex information environment.
They noted that the media, particularly digital and online platforms, plays a critical role in shaping public discourse, informing citizens, promoting accountability and providing platforms for competing perspectives.
The organisers stressed the need for professionalism, accuracy, ethical journalism and responsible use of digital media.
The conference will also examine the relationship between electoral processes, security and media reporting.
Discussions are expected to cover misinformation and disinformation, political communication, public trust, as well as the safety and professional responsibilities of journalists.
According to the organisers, preparations are already in top gear to make the 2026 edition a major gathering of online publishers and journalists in Delta State.
Participants are expected from government, political institutions, the academic community, the business sector and security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant agencies, as well as the nation’s electoral management body.
The organisers said the broad range of participants was designed to provide a multi-sectoral platform for examining the conference theme from professional, political, academic, security and institutional perspectives.
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, is expected to attend the event as Special Guest of Honour, while a professional and politician is scheduled to chair the occasion.
The Planning Committee also disclosed that a prominent academician had been selected and booked as the Distinguished Guest Lecturer for the 6th Annual Lecture.
The names of the chairman of the occasion and Distinguished Guest Lecturer were not disclosed in the announcement.
DOPF, a forum of online publishers and media practitioners, has continued to provide platforms for professional engagement on issues of public interest, including media responsibility, democratic governance, security and development.
The organisers said previous DOPF engagements had similarly focused on the role of responsible journalism in strengthening society and promoting peace.
They described the 2026 conference as more than an annual media gathering, saying it was designed as a convergence of ideas, expertise and institutional perspectives at a critical period in Nigeria’s democratic development.
The Planning Committee expressed confidence that the conference would generate meaningful conversations on the challenges facing democracy, electoral processes, national security and the media.
It said the event would also reinforce the importance of professional, ethical and accountable journalism in Nigeria.
