DESTMA Receives 6,642 Applications as Oborevwori Approves Recruitment of New Officers

Recruitment Opens New Employment Opportunities

THE Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA) has received 6,642 applications for its latest recruitment exercise following approval by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

The Director-General of DESTMA, Hon. Dr. Benjamin Essien Okiemute NN Rtd., FNIIS, said the recruitment would strengthen the authority’s workforce while providing employment opportunities for residents of the state.

He described the governor’s approval as evidence of the administration’s commitment to expanding opportunities for Deltans at a time when many economies face pressure to reduce their workforce.

According to him, the recruitment forms part of efforts to improve the operational capacity of DESTMA and create a more professional traffic management system across the state.

6,642 Applications Received

Dr. Okiemute disclosed that 6,642 people applied before the recruitment portal closed after four weeks.

He said the authority had moved into the application-review stage and would soon contact candidates selected to participate in the screening examination.

“As of today, we have received 6,642 applications,” he said, adding that the online portal had remained open for four weeks before it closed.

The large number of applications, he noted, demonstrated the level of interest in working with DESTMA and the importance many applicants attach to the authority’s evolving vision.

Transparency at the Centre of the Process

DESTMA said it designed the recruitment process to promote fairness and transparency.

Applicants were required to submit their applications through an online platform. The authority will now review the submissions against its recruitment requirements before selecting candidates for the next stage.

Dr. Okiemute urged applicants to remain patient while the review continues.

He also advised candidates to depend only on official DESTMA communication for information about screening dates, venues and other recruitment procedures.

Successful applicants who meet the required criteria will receive SMS notifications about the screening exercise, he said.

Warning Against Recruitment Fraud

The authority also issued a warning about individuals who may attempt to exploit job seekers.

Dr. Okiemute stressed that the recruitment exercise is free. No person has been authorised to sell, allocate or guarantee recruitment slots.

DESTMA has previously warned applicants to be cautious of fraudsters who demand money in exchange for employment.

The warning comes as the authority reviews thousands of applications, a period during which fraudulent claims of access to recruitment officials or guaranteed positions could mislead desperate job seekers.

Repositioning DESTMA

Beyond increasing its workforce, the recruitment exercise forms part of DESTMA’s broader rebranding and repositioning programme.

Dr. Okiemute said the authority wants to recruit people who understand the responsibilities attached to the DESTMA uniform and are prepared to serve the public professionally.

He said the authority would seek candidates capable of contributing to a more efficient, disciplined and responsive traffic management system.

The Director-General also thanked the applicants for showing interest in joining DESTMA.

For the applicants, however, the immediate task is to wait for the outcome of the review and follow official instructions when the authority announces the next stage.

The recruitment exercise therefore represents both an employment opportunity and a test of DESTMA’s ability to manage a large-scale selection process transparently and on merit.
