NIGERIA’S Falconets began their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign with a 2–0 defeat to Spain on Monday.
The European champions made their chances count, scoring once in each half to secure all three points.
Marisa García opened the scoring for Spain in the first half. Nigeria struggled to find a response before the break.
After the interval, the Falconets pushed forward in search of an equaliser. However, Spain remained composed and controlled the game.
Substitute Alba Cerrato then doubled Spain’s advantage after the restart. Her goal gave the European side greater control as Nigeria struggled to break through.
Despite their efforts, the Falconets could not find a way back into the contest. Spain held on comfortably to begin their campaign with a victory.
Nigeria must now regroup quickly and turn its attention to the next group-stage match. A positive result will be crucial as the Falconets seek to revive their World Cup campaign.
