Asagba Azinge Resolves Longstanding Footpath Dispute Between Asaba Families
THE Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, has brokered peace in a longstanding dispute between the Umunjor family of Agueze and Ogbe-Agueze Village in Umuaji Quarters, Asaba.
The monarch intervened in the Onu-Ilo dispute on Thursday 3 September 2026, bringing representatives of both sides together to seek an amicable resolution.
Monarch Clarifies Disputed Route
During the intervention, Asagba Azinge directed the Umunjor family to use a specific Onu-Ilo footpath running from Umunjor through Ikogwa and Olomor to Ihuani in Ogbe-Agueze.
According to the monarch, the route had existed for a long time and members of the Umunjor family had used it during the lifetime of their forefathers.
He said the facts presented to him showed that the family had historically used the route.
The Asagba consequently urged the parties not to allow the dispute to generate further disagreement within the community.
Call for Reconciliation
The monarch appealed to both sides to embrace peace and reconciliation.
He stressed that peace remained more valuable than any material interest, particularly among families and members of the same community.
His intervention brought representatives of the affected families together and created an opportunity for them to resolve the disagreement through dialogue.
Asagba Azinge expressed satisfaction with the willingness of both sides to settle the matter peacefully.
He said the resolution would help restore peaceful coexistence in Ogbe-Agueze Village.
Chiefs & Elders Support Peace Process
The monarch also commended the chiefs and elders of Asaba who participated in the peace process.
He appreciated their presence and support in facilitating an amicable settlement.
Speaking during the intervention, Obi Agbogidi Onyemanogeme Ajufoh praised the Asagba for his contributions to the development and peaceful coexistence of the people of Asaba.
He particularly commended the monarch for intervening in the dispute involving the Umunjor and Agueze families.
Ajufoh expressed confidence that the intervention would contribute to lasting peace in the affected communities.
Stakeholders Commit to Peace
Ogbueshi Nabo Albert Ojieh, Onodugo Ahaba, also thanked the Asagba for his intervention.
He commended the monarch’s commitment to resolving the disagreement through peaceful means and assured him that the parties would work to sustain the agreement.
Similarly, Obi Agbogidi Sammy Ogochukwu, who spoke on behalf of Umuaji Village, praised the monarch for resolving what he described as an age-long dispute.
He also commended the Asagba’s commitment to peace, unity and development across Asaba Kingdom.
Renewed Commitment to Harmony
The peace initiative received the support of chiefs, elders and other members of the affected communities.
The parties expressed their commitment to maintaining the peace and preventing the disagreement from resurfacing.
The resolution further highlights the traditional institution’s role in community mediation and conflict resolution.
For Asaba, the settlement provides an opportunity for the affected families to move beyond the longstanding disagreement and strengthen peaceful relations within the community.
