NGE Mourns Dotun Oladipo, Describes Him As Gentleman, Great Journalist
THE Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has expressed profound sadness over the death of Dr. Samson Dotun Oladipo, describing him as a gentleman, distinguished journalist and great media professional.
Oladipo, a former newspaper editor and publisher of The Eagle Online, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56.
In a statement signed by the President of the Guild, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, the NGE described Oladipo’s death as a painful loss to his family, colleagues and the Nigerian media industry.
The Guild said Oladipo distinguished himself during his career through professionalism, courage, intellectual depth and commitment to the principles of journalism and nation-building.
It noted that his contributions to journalism and the broader media industry had left an enduring mark.
According to the NGE, Oladipo was deeply committed to the growth of Nigerian media, particularly the development of digital journalism and online publishing.
The Guild also recalled his active membership of the professional body, saying his contributions added impetus to its growth and reflected his belief in professional solidarity and the promotion of ethical, credible and responsible journalism.
“Dr. Oladipo was not merely a media practitioner but also a respected colleague, mentor and contributor to the continuing evolution of the Nigerian media landscape,” the Guild said.
The NGE described his death as a great loss to the journalism profession and the wider media community, noting that he left behind a legacy of hard work, professional excellence, courage and service.
The Guild extended its condolences to his immediate family, colleagues, friends and associates, while praying that God would grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
It also prayed for the eternal repose of the deceased journalist.
“May Dr. Samson Dotun Oladipo’s memory remain a blessing to those who knew him, and may his contributions to journalism endure,” the Guild said.
