Asagba Condemns School Vandalism, Pledges ₦5 Million Support

THE Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, has called for urgent action to reverse the decline in public schools after an inspection revealed widespread vandalism and growing indiscipline among students.
The monarch made the call during an unscheduled visit to Isioma Onyeobi College in Asaba. He toured the school with the principal and assessed the condition of classrooms and other facilities.
Prof. Azinge said the condition of the college was disappointing. He noted that a school named after the late Chief P.I.G. Onyeobi should reflect the distinguished legacy of the respected Asaba son. Instead, he said, vandalised facilities and poor maintenance had diminished the institution’s image.
He blamed the situation largely on indiscipline among some students. He warned that acts of vandalism undermine education and waste public resources. He urged education authorities to intervene before the situation worsens.
The monarch commended Principal Mrs. Omagbesiayeh Helen Okeoghene for remaining committed despite the challenges. He encouraged her to continue promoting discipline and quality learning.
Prof. Azinge also directed attention to the role of parents. He said some parents enable misconduct by refusing to hold their children accountable. He pledged to participate in the school’s next PTA meeting to discuss practical ways of restoring discipline.
To demonstrate his commitment, the monarch donated ₦5 million for furniture. He also promised to engage relevant authorities and the Onyeobi family to mobilise additional support for the college.
The royal inspection continued at Osadenis Mixed Secondary School. There, the Asagba expressed concern over the institution’s declining standards. He urged the principal, Mrs. Aguonwe P.N., to remain firm in enforcing discipline among students.
He further assured the school that the Asaba community would support efforts to construct a perimeter fence. He said improved security would help protect school property and create a safer environment for learning.
The visits reinforced the monarch’s growing advocacy for quality education. They also highlighted the importance of discipline, responsible parenting and community partnership in rebuilding public schools and protecting investments in education.
