Team Nigeria Heads To US For World U20 Athletics Showdown

NIGERIA has departed for the 2026 World U20 Championships in the United States with a 15-member athletics team determined to compete strongly against the world’s best young talents.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria selected the squad after months of preparations. Officials believe the championship will provide another opportunity to showcase the country’s emerging stars on the global stage.
Two of Nigeria’s leading prospects, Jessica Oji and Miracle Ezechukwu, will join the team in Eugene after completing their commitments at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in the United Kingdom.
The federation expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver competitive performances across different events and continue Nigeria’s tradition of producing world-class athletes.
The World U20 Championships are widely regarded as a breeding ground for future Olympic and World Championship medalists. Nigerian officials hope the competition will accelerate the development of the country’s next generation of track and field stars.
The athletes are expected to begin final training sessions immediately after arriving in the United States before competition gets underway.
