Police Order Indefinite Closure Of National Stadium

THE management of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, has ordered the immediate closure of the facility following a security alert from the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters.
The directive took effect on 3 August 2026. Authorities said the closure will remain until further notice.
The decision affects athletes, football teams, fitness enthusiasts and other regular users of the stadium. No one will be allowed to enter the complex during the restriction.
Officials directed everyone already inside the stadium to leave peacefully. Security personnel have taken positions around the facility to enforce the order.
The stadium management said the action followed what police described as a credible security threat. However, authorities did not disclose the nature of the alert.
Officials urged members of the public to stay away from the stadium gates and cooperate fully with security agencies while assessments continue.
Management assured users that updates on the situation and the reopening of the stadium would be communicated through official channels.
The Moshood Abiola National Stadium remains one of Nigeria’s busiest sports venues. Its temporary closure is expected to disrupt training sessions, recreational activities and other scheduled sporting programmes until security agencies lift the restriction.
