Government Condemns Violent Incident
THE Delta State Government has strongly condemned the violent incident that occurred in Effurun on Sunday. It described the attack as disturbing and completely unacceptable. The government said it was particularly concerned by videos of the incident circulating across social media and other online platforms.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was deeply troubled by the development. He noted that the reported assault on Simon Mudi reflected a level of violence that has no place in Delta State.
Security Agencies Directed to Act
Aniagwu announced that the state government had directed security agencies to identify everyone involved in the violence. He said those responsible must be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law. He stressed that criminal acts would not be ignored, regardless of the identities or status of those implicated.
The commissioner explained that ensuring the safety of residents remains one of the government’s highest priorities. He added that swift action by security agencies would help reinforce public confidence in the rule of law and discourage similar incidents in the future.
Commitment to Peace and Rule of Law
The Delta State Government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, security and public order across the state. Aniagwu said the Oborevwori administration would continue to support law enforcement agencies in protecting lives and property.
He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist ongoing investigations. He assured the public that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law, stressing that violence would never be tolerated in Delta State.
