Monarch Announces Signature Development Project

ASABA’S historic Ogbeke Square Roundabout is set for a major facelift following the announcement by the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, that the landmark will be redeveloped as part of activities marking his second coronation anniversary.

The project represents one of the flagship initiatives under the Asaba Urban Renewal Initiative, a comprehensive programme designed to modernise public spaces while preserving the city’s historical and cultural identity.

Infrastructure & Beautification Planned

Plans for the redevelopment include the installation of solar-powered lighting systems, an ornamental fountain, a borehole, improved landscaping and enhanced architectural features aimed at transforming the roundabout into an attractive civic destination.

The palace said the project is intended not only to beautify the city but also to improve the quality of public infrastructure and create a more environmentally sustainable urban environment.

Part of Broader City Development Vision

The initiative complements ongoing urban planning reforms aimed at encouraging orderly development, environmental cleanliness and compliance with planning regulations throughout the Asaba Kingdom.

Speaking on the project, Prof. Azinge reaffirmed his commitment to implementing initiatives that deliver lasting social, environmental and developmental benefits for residents.

He stressed that investments in public spaces remain essential to strengthening Asaba’s identity as a modern state capital while preserving its rich cultural heritage.

Commissioning Planned During Anniversary Events

The upgraded Ogbeke Square Roundabout is expected to be one of the centrepieces of activities celebrating the monarch’s second coronation anniversary.

Community stakeholders have commended the initiative, describing it as another significant contribution to the city’s ongoing transformation.

The redevelopment project has been entrusted to Ogbueshi Dili Biosah, an Asaba indigene and internationally recognised artist, sculptor and urban beautification specialist, whose expertise is expected to deliver a landmark public space befitting the city’s growing profile.
