Commissioner Applauds Governor’s Financial Stewardship
DELTA State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, has praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as prudent financial management and disciplined deployment of public resources, saying the administration’s fiscal responsibility has become a major driver of infrastructure expansion and socio-economic development across the state.
Tonukari made the remarks while receiving members of the Ethiope East chapter of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors during a courtesy visit to his country home in Isiokolo ahead of the group’s inauguration scheduled for 24 July 2026.
He said the governor’s commitment to accountability, transparency and responsible governance has strengthened public confidence in government while ensuring that available resources are effectively utilised to deliver projects that directly benefit residents.
Prudent Spending Supporting Sustainable Development
According to the commissioner, Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated that disciplined financial management remains central to sustainable development, enabling the state to undertake critical infrastructure and social investment projects without placing unnecessary pressure on public finances.
He noted that careful planning and strict adherence to fiscal discipline have allowed the administration to execute projects across strategic sectors while maintaining financial stability.
“Our governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has demonstrated exceptional prudence in the management of public funds. His disciplined approach to governance has made it possible for the state to undertake and complete impactful projects across different sectors while maintaining fiscal stability,” Tonukari stated.
He explained that prudent budgeting and efficient resource allocation have become defining features of the administration’s governance philosophy.
Education Remains a Key Development Priority
Tonukari attributed the successes recorded by the Ministry of Higher Education and other government institutions to Governor Oborevwori’s visionary leadership and unwavering support for policies aimed at strengthening human capital development.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to sustaining investments in education, describing the sector as critical to the state’s long-term economic competitiveness and social advancement.
According to him, continuous investment in educational infrastructure, institutional development and capacity building remains essential to producing the skilled workforce needed to drive future growth.
Renewed Hope Ambassadors Express Confidence
Earlier, leader of the delegation, Chief Julius Eguvwebere, said the visit was organised to appreciate the commissioner for his contributions to the development of Ethiope East Local Government Area.
He commended Tonukari’s leadership and acknowledged what he described as his developmental interventions across the council’s 11 wards, particularly in education and community development.
Eguvwebere also reaffirmed the commitment of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to mobilising grassroots support for the development programmes of both the Delta State Government and the Federal Government.
Call for Stronger Government-Community Partnership
The visit concluded with both parties expressing optimism that closer collaboration between government institutions and community-based organisations would promote inclusive development and encourage greater citizen participation in governance.
They maintained that sustained engagement between public officials and grassroots stakeholders remains essential to achieving long-term development objectives and strengthening democratic governance across Delta State.
