Team Nigeria Intensifies Commonwealth Games Build-Up In Scotland

Final Preparations Begin for Glasgow 2026
TEAM Nigeria has entered the decisive stage of preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with the country’s contingent establishing a training camp at the Aberdeen Sports Village in Scotland ahead of the opening of the Games in Glasgow.
With just 18 days remaining before competition begins, the athletes are expected to spend the next three weeks training and acclimatising at the high-performance facility before moving into the official Games Village.
World-Class Facilities to Boost Performance
The National Sports Commission (NSC) said the Aberdeen Sports Village was selected to provide the team with an ideal environment for intensive training, recovery and adaptation to local conditions before the competition.
The facility boasts an internationally accredited athletics track, a UK Athletics-certified indoor athletics centre, an Olympic-standard swimming complex, modern gymnasiums, recovery centres and multi-purpose indoor sports arenas. It has also served as a preparation base for elite athletes and international competitions over the years.
NSC Expresses Confidence in Team Nigeria
Director-General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, said the commission remains committed to giving Nigerian athletes every opportunity to perform at their best during the Games.
According to him, the final phase of preparation is focused on ensuring athletes benefit from world-class facilities capable of sharpening their competitive edge before the opening ceremony.
Olopade expressed optimism that the team’s investment in quality preparation would translate into strong performances, while wishing every athlete a healthy and injury-free campaign.
Training Camp Continues to Expand
Preparations have also gathered momentum with more members of Team Nigeria arriving in Scotland.
The NSC disclosed that 18 additional athletes joined the training camp on Saturday, bringing the total number of athletes currently in camp to 74.
More athletes and officials are expected in the coming days as Team Nigeria completes its final build-up for what officials hope will be another successful outing at the Commonwealth Games.
