Infrastructure, Healthcare, Empowerment: Delta Lists Achievements Under Oborevwori
Delta Government Rebuts Criticism of Administration
THE Delta State Government has strongly defended the performance of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, rejecting claims that his administration has prioritised infrastructure projects at the expense of broader governance objectives.
Responding to criticisms contained in a recent article titled “Beyond Concrete: When Contracts Replace Governance in Oborevwori’s Delta,” the government described the publication as an opinion-based assessment that overlooked key achievements recorded across multiple sectors since the governor assumed office.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, the administration maintained that its development strategy extends beyond road construction and encompasses healthcare, education, economic empowerment, agriculture, security, rural development and environmental management.
According to the government, the implementation of the MORE Agenda has provided a framework for balanced growth aimed at improving the quality of life for residents across Delta State.
Infrastructure as a Tool for Economic Growth
Defending the administration’s extensive infrastructure programme, Ahon argued that roads, bridges, drainage systems and public facilities are not merely construction projects but essential investments designed to stimulate economic activity and improve connectivity.
He highlighted several landmark projects currently underway or completed, including the PTI Junction Flyover, DSC Roundabout Flyover, Enerhen Junction Flyover, Otovwodo Flyover and Agbor Flyover.
The administration also pointed to major bridge and road projects such as the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges Project, Ayakoromo Bridge and Kwale-Beneku Bridge, alongside numerous urban and rural road developments spread across the state’s three senatorial districts.
The government said these projects are intended to reduce transportation challenges, improve access to markets and support long-term economic expansion.
Investments in Healthcare and Education
The government also outlined achievements in the health sector, describing healthcare as one of the major beneficiaries of public investment under the Oborevwori administration.
According to Ahon, medical facilities across the state have been equipped with modern technologies, including MRI machines, CT scan facilities, dialysis equipment and advanced 4D ultrasound scanners distributed across local government areas.
He further disclosed that over 150 primary healthcare centres are undergoing renovation and upgrading to improve service delivery at the grassroots level.
In education, the administration said it has recruited thousands of teaching and non-teaching personnel while investing in school infrastructure and technical education programmes.
Among notable projects cited were the establishment of a new College of Health Technology in Ovrode and the Faculty of Medical Sciences building at Southern Delta University in Ozoro.
Officials said the interventions are aimed at strengthening human capital development and preparing young people for emerging economic opportunities.
Empowerment Programmes and Rural Transformation
The government also highlighted several social intervention initiatives targeted at reducing poverty and supporting entrepreneurship.
Programmes such as D-CARES, MORE Grants, MORE Biz-Up, WESAP and the Working Fingers Initiative have reportedly provided financial assistance, vocational training and business support to youths, women, artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs.
Ahon stated that hundreds of thousands of residents have benefited from the interventions, which are designed to stimulate economic activity and create sustainable livelihoods.
In rural communities, the government said investments have been made in roads, water supply schemes, electrification projects, schools and healthcare facilities to bridge development gaps between urban and rural areas.
Security and Fiscal Prudence
Responding to criticism over plans to establish police divisional headquarters across the state’s 25 local government areas, the government argued that the initiative represents a proactive investment in public safety.
Ahon maintained that although policing remains under federal jurisdiction, state governments have a responsibility to support security agencies through infrastructure and logistics.
He further noted that improved security would encourage investment, support business growth and enhance public confidence.
The administration also emphasised what it described as prudent financial management, claiming that many of its projects have been executed without resorting to heavy borrowing.
According to the government, Delta has maintained a reputation as one of Nigeria’s best-managed sub-national entities due to responsible resource utilisation and strategic planning.
Government Reaffirms Commitment to MORE Agenda
The Delta State Government concluded that the impact of governance should be measured by improvements in citizens’ lives rather than political commentary.
Officials insisted that visible progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, security and economic empowerment demonstrates that Governor Oborevwori is fulfilling the promises contained in the MORE Agenda.
The administration pledged to remain focused on sustaining development initiatives aimed at promoting inclusive growth, improving living standards and strengthening peace and security across Delta State.
