Governor Expresses Grief Over Former Commissioner’s Death
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed profound sadness over the passing of former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Sisanmi Otumara, who died on Friday 12 June 2026, at the age of 65.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the Governor described the late Otumara as an accomplished medical practitioner, seasoned administrator, astute politician and dedicated public servant whose impact on Delta State would be remembered for years to come.
Tribute to a Distinguished Career
Governor Oborevwori noted that Dr. Otumara’s career reflected a lifetime of commitment to public service, healthcare administration and political development.
According to the Governor, the former commissioner distinguished himself through diligence, integrity and professionalism in every position he occupied, contributing significantly to the growth of the state and the wellbeing of its people.
He remarked that Otumara’s service extended beyond the medical profession, touching local government administration and broader governance structures where he earned respect for his leadership and dedication.
Loss to Delta, Itsekiri Nation and APC
The Governor described the death as a painful loss to the deceased’s family, the Itsekiri nation, Delta State and the All Progressives Congress (APC), where Dr. Otumara played several important roles.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of Dr. Joseph Sisanmi Otumara, a distinguished statesman, seasoned administrator and former Commissioner for Health whose service to Delta State was exemplary.
“His contributions to healthcare delivery, local government administration and political development in Delta State remain invaluable. His death is a great loss to the state and the nation,” the Governor stated.
Condolences and Prayers
Governor Oborevwori extended his heartfelt condolences to the Otumara family, the people of Warri South, the Itsekiri nation, friends and political associates of the deceased.
He prayed that God would grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the loss and also prayed for the peaceful repose of Dr. Otumara’s soul.
The Governor added that the late public servant’s legacy of service, leadership and commitment to humanity would continue to inspire generations to come.
