JUNE 12: Greater Days Ahead For Nigeria, Oborevwori Assures Citizens
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, expressing optimism that the country’s democratic journey will continue to deliver greater prosperity, stability and development for all citizens.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor praised Nigerians for their steadfast commitment to democracy and constitutional governance despite the socio-economic and political challenges confronting the nation.
Oborevwori described June 12 as a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic history, symbolising the resilience, courage and determination of citizens in the struggle for democratic rule. He noted that the sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists and national heroes must continue to inspire future generations.
According to him, Democracy Day provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s democratic progress, strengthen key institutions and renew their commitment to building a more united, peaceful and prosperous country.
The governor stated that democracy remains the most effective system of government because it guarantees citizens the right to participate in governance while promoting accountability, transparency and the rule of law.
He urged Nigerians to continue supporting democratic institutions and elected leaders, stressing the need for peace, tolerance, patriotism and national unity as critical ingredients for sustainable growth and development.
Oborevwori also expressed confidence that ongoing reforms and the dedication of leaders across the country would ultimately produce positive outcomes for citizens.
“On this Democracy Day, I congratulate all Nigerians and commend their steadfast belief in democratic governance. We must remain hopeful and united as a nation. With collective effort, patriotism and commitment to national development, greater days are certainly ahead for our country,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Delta State through people-focused policies, strategic infrastructure projects and programmes anchored on the MORE Agenda.
He added that his government would continue to prioritise initiatives aimed at improving the welfare, living standards and economic opportunities of Deltans.
Oborevwori further called on citizens to remain law-abiding and support government programmes designed to promote peace, economic growth and sustainable development across Delta State and Nigeria.
