Kaduna Sharia Court Orders Teacher To End Relationship With Student, Pay Medical Bills

A Sharia Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, has ordered a teacher, Yusuf Yusuf, to end his romantic relationship with his student, Zainab Muhammad. The court also directed him to pay N8,500 to cover her medical expenses after an alleged assault.

Judge Murtala Nasir issued the order on Wednesday after both parties reached an out-of-court settlement. According to the prosecution, the incident happened on September 5, when Zainab reported Yusuf to the Sabon Gari Police Station for attacking her.

Inspector Ibrahim Shuaibu, who presented the case, told the court that the teacher assaulted Zainab after seeing her with another man. The attack left her with injuries on her face and body.

Investigations revealed that the teacher was romantically involved with the student, which the prosecution said violated Sections 216 and 211 of the Sharia Penal Code, 2002.

Yusuf pleaded not guilty to the charges.
