PDP Picks Umurhohwo For Delta Assembly Race

PDP Produces Umurhohwo as Candidate for Ughelli North Constituency II
YOUTH development advocate and grassroots mobiliser, Mr. Oke Umurhohwo, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Delta State House of Assembly election in Ughelli North Constituency II ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Umurhohwo emerged during the party’s primary election held in Ughelli in an exercise party leaders described as peaceful, transparent and largely driven by consensus among stakeholders within the constituency.
His emergence followed the withdrawal of other aspirants who reportedly stepped down in support of his candidacy as part of efforts to strengthen party unity ahead of the polls.
Party members at the venue described the process as a reflection of growing efforts within the PDP to maintain cohesion and consolidate its grassroots structure in the constituency despite recent political realignments in Delta State.
Candidate Promises Inclusive Representation
Speaking shortly after the primary election, Umurhohwo thanked party leaders, executives, women groups, youths and supporters for the confidence reposed in him.
He described his emergence as a collective mandate rooted in unity, sacrifice and a shared desire for more responsive representation.
“I am deeply grateful for the trust and support shown to me today. This is beyond politics for me. It is about service, accessibility, youth inclusion and building stronger connections between the people and government,” he said.
The PDP candidate assured party faithful that his campaign would focus on practical representation and community engagement.
According to him, priority areas would include youth empowerment, education support programmes, enterprise development and stronger advocacy for community needs across Ughelli North Constituency II.
PDP Still Strong in Ughelli North — Umurhohwo
Commenting on recent political developments in Delta State, Umurhohwo maintained that the PDP remained firmly rooted in Ughelli North despite defections and shifting political alliances in parts of the state.
“PDP remains deeply rooted in Ughelli North. Many people may move around politically, but the connection between the PDP and the grassroots here is still very strong,” he stated.
Observers said his emergence reflects the growing influence of younger political actors within the PDP as the party seeks to retain relevance and strengthen its grassroots support base ahead of the 2027 elections.
Umurhohwo, who has worked across the private sector, sports development and community-based initiatives for more than a decade, is widely regarded by supporters as part of a new generation of politicians advocating people-focused governance and accountability.
Party stakeholders expressed optimism that the consensus-driven process would help reduce internal divisions and position the PDP strongly for the forthcoming assembly election in the constituency.
