Police Crack Down On Kidnappers, Cultists In Delta

Police Rescue Three-Year-Old Girl
THE Delta State Police Command has recorded fresh successes in its ongoing operations against kidnapping and violent crime following the rescue of a kidnapped three-year-old girl in Ughelli.
Police operatives attached to the Command Anti-Vice Squad, Sector 2, reportedly rescued the child after arresting a commercial motorcyclist identified as Kelvin Ogaga, who was allegedly involved in the abduction.
According to the police, the suspect had been entrusted with taking the child to school daily before allegedly kidnapping her and demanding a ransom of ₦500,000 from the family.
Ransom Money, Motorcycle Recovered
Investigations revealed that the family eventually paid ransom to secure the release of the child before police operatives tracked the suspect to his hideout through what authorities described as credible technical intelligence.
Recovered from the suspect were ₦127,000 believed to be part of the ransom payment, valuables allegedly purchased with proceeds from the crime, and the motorcycle reportedly used during the operation.
Police authorities said investigations were continuing as efforts intensified to dismantle criminal networks operating within the state.
Firearms Recovered During Patrol Operations
In a separate operation, operatives of the Department of Operations’ Buffalo Team recovered a Beretta pistol during a stop-and-search patrol near the Power Line axis around Bonsaac.
According to the police, officers observed a suspicious man carrying a black bag, but the suspect fled immediately after sighting the patrol team.
A subsequent search of the abandoned bag reportedly led to the recovery of the pistol and an iPhone, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
Suspected Cultist Arrested
Meanwhile, officers attached to Ozoro Division arrested a suspect identified as Michael Monday along Omovutotu Street in Ozoro after he allegedly attempted to evade police patrol operatives.
Police said a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size single-barrel gun and a live cartridge.
Preliminary investigations reportedly linked the suspect to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as “Aro Bagger.”
Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling insecurity and urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies.
