NFF Pays Super Eagles AFCON Bonus As Players Share Tournament Earnings

Super Eagles Get ₦20 Million Each After AFCON Campaign
NIGERIA’S senior national team players have each received about ₦20 million as their share of prize money earned from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Morocco, according to reports. The payment follows the team’s strong run to the latter stages of the continental tournament.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) reportedly disbursed the agreed percentage of the tournament earnings to the players after the competition, in line with an arrangement reached before the event. Sources said the federation allocated 30 per cent of the team’s prize money to the squad.
Reward for Strong Tournament Showing
The Super Eagles secured a semi-final finish at the tournament and later claimed third place after defeating Egypt via penalties in the bronze medal match. Their performance ensured a sizeable financial reward from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Nigeria reportedly received $2.5 million in prize money for reaching the semi-finals. From that amount, each player was said to have taken home around $15,000, equivalent to over ₦20 million at current exchange estimates.
The payout is expected to boost morale within the squad, especially after a campaign widely praised for discipline, resilience, and improved performances.
Attention Turns to Upcoming Fixtures
With the AFCON payments settled, focus now shifts to Nigeria’s next assignments on the international calendar. The Super Eagles are expected to reconvene in late May for the Unity Cup in London, where they will defend their title against invited nations.
The three-time African champions are also scheduled to face Portugal and Poland in friendly matches in June as preparations continue for future competitive fixtures.
The prompt payment of bonuses may also ease longstanding concerns around delayed allowances and unpaid incentives that have affected previous national team camps.
