FG Declares Two-Day Holiday For Eid-El-Fitr Celebration

Federal Government Announces Eid Holidays
THE Federal Government has declared Thursday 19 March and Friday 20 March 2026, as public holidays to commemorate Eid-El-Fitr, the festival marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government.
Message to the Muslim Community
In a statement accompanying the declaration, the minister congratulated Muslims across the country on the successful completion of Ramadan, a period characterised by fasting, prayer, and reflection.
He urged adherents of Islam to sustain the virtues cultivated during the holy month, including love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.
Call for National Unity
Beyond the religious significance of the celebration, the government called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the country’s peace, unity, and continued development.
The minister emphasised the importance of peaceful coexistence among citizens, regardless of religious or ethnic differences.
Appeal for Responsible Celebration
While wishing Muslims a joyful Eid-El-Fitr celebration, the government also encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged.
The declaration of public holidays is part of efforts to enable Muslims and other Nigerians to fully participate in the festivities.
