Oborevwori Wins New Telegraph Overall Governor Of The Year 2025 Award
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been named the Overall Governor of the Year 2025 by New Telegraph Newspapers Limited, in recognition of his administration’s remarkable strides in infrastructure and transformational governance.
The honour was conferred at the New Telegraph Awards/Dinner Night 2025, held Friday at the Lagos Oriental Hotel. The governor was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme.
According to the organisers, Governor Oborevwori earned the award for “astonishing even his most ardent critics” through massive infrastructural development achieved in less than three years in office.
Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of New Telegraph, Mr. Ayodele Aminu, said recipients of the 2025 awards emerged after a rigorous, transparent selection process that examined performance across critical sectors of the nation’s economy. He noted that the awards celebrate excellence, accountability and impactful leadership.
Chairman of the occasion and former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, congratulated the awardees and urged them to view the honour as a call to deepen their service to the nation.
The organisers highlighted Delta State’s unprecedented expansion of road projects under Oborevwori’s leadership. In under three years, the administration has embarked on over 3,500 kilometres of roads and approximately 2,000 kilometres of drainage systems.
Urban and rural communities across the state are currently experiencing rapid transformation, with the construction of new roads, bridges and flyovers aimed at strengthening connectivity and boosting economic activities. The urban renewal drive has improved accessibility and enhanced living conditions for residents.
Speaking to journalists after receiving the award on behalf of the governor, Sir Monday Onyeme dedicated the honour to God and the people of Delta State.
He said the award affirms the success of the administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda, noting visible progress in infrastructure, education, human capital development, healthcare, youth empowerment and sports.
“This recognition clearly shows that we are on the right track. The impact is visible across Delta State. We remain committed to delivering more projects in the coming months,” Onyeme stated.
The ceremony was attended by Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, Dr. Andrew Oru, members of the Urhobo Social Club, Lagos, commissioners and other top government officials.
The 2025 New Telegraph Governor of the Year Award adds to the growing list of recognitions earned by Governor Oborevwori, underscoring his commitment to infrastructure renewal, inclusive governance and sustainable development.
