Embrace AI to Tackle Evolving Crime, NSCDC Personnel Told

NSCDC Intensifies Shift to AI-Driven Forensic Investigations
THE Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is stepping up efforts to modernise its investigative operations, with Commandant-General Dr. Ahmed Audi urging officers to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in crime detection and prosecution.
Speaking at the conclusion of a two-day workshop in Abuja on “Forensic and Artificial Intelligence in the 21st Century,” Audi said the integration of AI into investigations was no longer optional but necessary in confronting evolving security threats.
He observed that criminal networks now operate across borders and leverage advanced technologies, making conventional investigative methods increasingly inadequate. To counter such threats, he said, security agencies must deploy equally sophisticated tools.
Audi highlighted the relevance of AI in analysing large volumes of data, identifying crime patterns, supporting biometric verification, enhancing digital forensics and generating predictive intelligence. These capabilities, he noted, would significantly improve response time and investigative precision.
He maintained that evidence-based operations powered by forensic science and AI would strengthen prosecution processes and reinforce public trust in the corps’ mandate to safeguard lives and critical national infrastructure.
While advocating innovation, the NSCDC chief emphasised that technology must be applied ethically and professionally to avoid misuse and ensure accountability.
He called on workshop participants to implement the skills acquired in their respective commands, stressing that the corps’ effectiveness depends on its ability to adapt to global best practices.
The renewed focus on AI reflects the agency’s broader strategy to build a technologically responsive security institution capable of addressing 21st-century crime challenges.
