DHQ Reports Progress in North East Security Operations
THE Defence Headquarters has reported significant achievements by Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai, with over 30 terrorists neutralised and more than 700 Nigerian refugees safely returned from Cameroon in the last week.
According to Major General Michael Onoja, these results stem from aggressive, intelligence-driven operations conducted with air support and collaboration with local security groups against Boko Haram, ISWAP, and JAS insurgents.
In a notable engagement on 30 January, troops in the Timbuktu Triangle near Kimba, Damboa LGA, Borno State, eliminated over 20 insurgents, including the high-profile commander Julaibib. Operations are ongoing in Gwoza (Borno) and Hong and Mubi North (Adamawa), leading to kidnapper arrests, weapons recoveries, and abduction rescues.
Troops also destroyed three major terrorist detention facilities along the Damboa–Gujba axis, each capable of holding about 300 captives, freeing 70 victims. The military also successfully repatriated a second batch of roughly 700 Nigerian refugees from Cameroon through the Banki border in Bama LGA, Borno, with security fully ensured throughout.
Air interdiction missions conducted during the period destroyed five suspected VBIEDs along Marguna road in Kaga LGA, Borno, while continued operations across Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa led to the arrest of insurgent logistics suppliers and recovery of additional arms and ammunition.
Major General Onoja emphasized that these operations are progressively weakening terrorist networks, ensuring safer conditions for communities, and enabling the resettlement of displaced persons across the North East.
