From Literature To Science: Nigeria Prizes Logos Get Modern Makeover To Inspire Innovation

NLNG Refreshes Visual Identity of The Nigeria Prizes
A New Chapter for Nigerian Excellence
THE Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has unveiled redesigned logos for The Nigeria Prize for Literature, The Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation, and the newly launched Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts. The event, held at a Lagos press conference on 29 January 2026, marks a strategic evolution of Nigeria’s foremost platforms for intellectual and creative achievement.
Dr. Sophia Horsfall, NLNG’s General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development, described the refresh as a forward-looking effort to strengthen the prizes’ legacy and global visibility. “Ideas shape societies, and societies that invest in ideas secure their future,” she said, emphasizing the prizes’ role in promoting sustainable development through literature, science, and creativity.
Symbols of Ideas and Innovation
The new logos convey deeper meaning:
-
Literature: A layered green design resembling turning pages, symbolizing imagination, dialogue, and the ongoing journey of Nigerian storytelling. Prof. Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo noted that it celebrates the dynamic, evolving nature of literature and the importance of writers’ voices.
-
Science and Innovation: Intersecting blue orbits depict atomic motion and celestial paths, reflecting the spirit of inquiry, experimentation, and national transformation. Prof. Barth Nnaji described it as embodying discipline, rigour, and innovation essential for Nigeria’s industrial and technological growth.
-
Creative Arts: A lime-green spiral represents momentum, interconnectedness, and originality, highlighting the diversity and energy of Nigeria’s artistic landscape.
Reinforcing Legacy and Impact
Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, NLNG’s Manager of Corporate Communications, emphasized that visual identity conveys institutional values. “Logos reflect achievements, commitment, and progress,” she said, noting the prizes’ long-standing influence across literary, scientific, and creative communities. The refreshed designs build on the prizes’ 2004 legacy, ensuring they remain symbols of excellence, thought leadership, and national pride.
