Sustaining Families Begins With Mothers, Says Oborevwori At Prayer Conference

Call for Renewed Spiritual Commitment
MRS. Tobore Oborevwori, wife of the Delta State Governor, has called on mothers to recommit to prayer and moral leadership, describing them as essential tools for sustaining families and building a peaceful society.
She made the appeal at the 19th Mothers Arise Prayers Conference held on Monday at the Government House Chapel in Asaba, an annual interdenominational gathering organised by her foundation, You Matter Charity.
Repositioning Mothers as Intercessors
Oborevwori said the conference was aimed at strengthening mothers spiritually and encouraging them to take their place as intercessors for their homes, communities and the state. She noted that mothers occupy a strategic position in shaping values, influencing character and determining the spiritual direction of families.
The theme, “Not So,” she explained, challenges women to reject compromise and confront moral, spiritual and social pressures threatening family stability.
Lessons From Scripture
Referencing the biblical account of Elizabeth in Luke 1:60, Oborevwori said firm intervention at critical moments can preserve destiny. She urged mothers to be bold in resisting negative influences and to actively protect their children from forces capable of derailing their future.
She emphasised that mothers must not only nurture but also speak with authority, noting that words spoken in faith can redirect outcomes and restore hope.
Faith, Words and Governance
According to the governor’s wife, consistent prayer combined with positive declarations can transform families and societies. She encouraged participants to speak peace, progress and unity over Delta State, assuring them that faith-backed words attract divine backing.
She also appealed to mothers to continue praying for her husband, effective governance and sustained peace across the state, describing prayer as a critical support for leadership.
Civic Responsibility Encouraged
Beyond prayer, Oborevwori urged women to engage in civic duties, particularly voter registration, stressing that active participation in governance strengthens democracy and complements spiritual effort.
She praised the guest speaker for her impactful message and thanked participants for their continued support of the annual conference.
Warning Against Spiritual Complacency
Delivering the sermon, Rev. Fanny Ekpekurede warned mothers against spiritual complacency, urging a return to disciplined and intentional prayer. She said families thrive when mothers are spiritually alert and committed.
Ekpekurede noted that consistent prayer preserves marriages, shapes children’s destinies and guards families against destructive influences, while neglect exposes homes to avoidable crises.
The conference featured extensive prayer sessions for families, youths, government leaders and Nigeria as a whole, reinforcing the central message of spiritual responsibility and moral leadership.
