31st January: Delta Residents To Observe Environmental Clean-Up
Delta Announces January Sanitation, Warns Defaulters
THE Delta State Government has scheduled Saturday 31 January 2026, for its Monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise, with a statewide restriction of movement between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
According to a special announcement, the restriction will affect both vehicular and pedestrian movement, as residents are expected to participate actively in cleaning their environment to curb the spread of diseases.
The government advised residents to clear refuse, cut overgrown weeds, unblock drainages and ensure proper sanitation within their neighbourhoods. It reiterated that every resident has a responsibility to clean up to a 20-metre radius around their homes, shops or offices.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani, will supervise the exercise alongside officials of the Ministry of Environment and other enforcement agencies to ensure compliance across the state.
The government warned that Mobile Magistrate Courts would be on ground during the exercise, stressing that individuals who fail to participate or violate the movement restriction would face prosecution and fines.
Urging cooperation, the Delta State Government said environmental sanitation remains critical to public health, flood prevention and sustainable development, calling on residents to support efforts aimed at building a cleaner and healthier state.
