Moroccan Referee Set for Egypt-Nigeria AFCON Clash

THE Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Moroccan referee Jalal Jiyed will take charge of the third-place playoff between Egypt and Nigeria at AFCON 2025 this Saturday in Rabat.
Jiyed will be supported on VAR duties by Algerian official Lahlu Benbraham, CAF stated. The appointment comes as both teams aim to secure a podium finish after tough semi-final exits.
Nigeria bowed out of the tournament following a dramatic penalty shootout defeat against host nation Morocco, while Egypt fell 1-0 to Senegal in their semi-final clash.
Saturday’s encounter will see the Super Eagles face the Pharaohs in a battle for third place, offering both teams a chance to end the tournament on a high note ahead of the final.
