Tragedy unfolded in Oghior Community, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, on Wednesday, following the alleged killing of an elderly man by his son.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect, identified as Saturday Okutu, allegedly set his father, Pa Chicago Okutu, ablaze after a violent confrontation. Residents said the incident occurred after the young man reportedly took a hard drug known locally as “Colorado.”
According to a community source, the suspect became aggressive shortly after taking the substance, leading to a heated altercation that escalated into a physical attack. In the process, the house was allegedly set on fire, resulting in the death of the elderly man.
The shocking incident has plunged the community into grief, with residents expressing fear and concern over the growing influence of hard drugs among youths. Many described the late Pa Okutu as a peaceful elder whose death has left a deep wound in the community.

Community leaders have begun preliminary investigations as more details emerge. Meanwhile, efforts to get official confirmation from the Delta State Police Command were ongoing. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said he would respond but had yet to do so as of press time.
