Economic Reforms and Revenue Inflows Angle
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared that state governments are now benefiting from increased allocations from FAAC, attributing the trend to recent economic reforms at the federal level.
The governor, however, criticised some state governments for downplaying the improved revenue situation, urging them instead to channel the funds into projects that directly benefit the people.
Speaking during the Otovwodo Flyover groundbreaking ceremony in Ughelli, Oborevwori dismissed narratives suggesting that states are financially constrained, insisting that more funds are flowing into state coffers.
“The money is coming from somewhere. Some people want to hide it, but there is money,” he said, stressing that citizens deserve honesty and tangible evidence of how public funds are utilised.
His comments align with remarks made earlier by NGF Chairman AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq during a New Year meeting with President Bola Tinubu, where he acknowledged that economic restructuring has boosted state revenues despite inflationary challenges.
Oborevwori said the ₦39.3 billion flyover project demonstrates Delta State’s commitment to people-centred governance and accountable infrastructure delivery. He noted that the project would boost trade, reduce travel time and decongest the Otovwodo axis, a vital gateway along the East-West highway.
