Nigeria Secures Hosting Rights for Maiden African Supporters Awards
NIGERIA has recorded a major diplomatic and organisational success in continental football supportership after emerging with key honours at the Confederation of African Sports Supporters (CASS) meeting held in Casablanca, Morocco.
At the gathering, Nigeria was selected to host the maiden African Supporters Awards, scheduled to take place in Lagos in March, marking a historic first for the continent’s organised supporters’ movement.
In addition, President General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, was appointed Patron of CASS, further strengthening Nigeria’s influence within African football supportership circles.
Rev. Samuel Ikpea, National Chairman of the NFSC, was also named Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the awards.
The meeting drew delegates from over 36 African countries, with some participating virtually.
In his acceptance remarks, Ladipo described the outcome as a reflection of Nigeria’s consistency and organisational capacity in football supportership, pledging continued commitment to unity, peace and collaboration among African supporters.
